We finally got to Leeds UK in time to see Stephen's Aunt and celebrated with some wierd warm beer. They cancelled our plane from New York due to the volcano but after lining up for 3.5 hours we got another plane and ended up only an hour or so late.
Stephen's bubbly cousins.
Nieces and Ice-Cream
Happy Birthday with the family!
Daivd and Philip picked us up from Leeds and took us up Ilkley Moor without a hat.
Stephen had a sore ankle and gingerly made his way up the Moor.
David and Philip crossing the stream with Stephen near the summit
Next we went to Bolton Abbey
Some friends met us at the Abbey for a surprise lunch
I had yorkshire pudding - no one from Yorkshire did
After lunch we went for a stroll through the Bolton Wood.
We went as far as The Strid
Next day we had a walk around Halifax with Philip who as a town planner was able to provide great context. We went to the Piece Hall - but no Yoko Ono - sold pieces of cloth apparently.
One of the rich local family estates is now a Museum including fabrics of the world
We went to Kirkstall Abbey on the way to the boys choir rehersal
Next day we found our way on the bus to Hebden Bridge. A railway line, roadway, canal and river all snaking up a narrow valley one across the other was an engineering crochet challenge.
Navigation Lock - no modern parts
We climbed out of the valley to an old stone village on the moor.
We met some of the locals
Public Footpaths includes squeeze through gaps in the stone walls
Path back over the edge down to our bus in the valley
Andrew and Sean came to take us to Harrogate
Mathew and me
Glad those visitors and kids finally went - we're exhausted
